2019 - Record for the Ushant-Equator passage in 4 days 20 hours and 7 minutes over the Jules Verne Trophy course

The youngest member of the crew on the maxi-trimaran Sails of Change, as well as the TF35 Spindrift, Duncan first began sailing at the tender age of 5. Initially he lived out his passion through his uncle’s achievements during various America’s Cup campaigns. From there, he became intrigued by the multiple nautical adventures taken on by his mother Dona Bertarelli and the Spindrift team, particularly that of their around-the-world campaign in the winter of 2015-2016.

With close ties to the Spindrift team from its creation, much of his youth was spent surrounded by members of the team before battling alongside them in certain records like the Fastnet and the Transat Québec Saint-Malo aboard Spindrift 2.

Duncan Späth is committed to sustainable development. In this way, in 2021, he joined Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard in founding Sails of Change, a community of sports and nature lovers who want to create a sustainable future for our planet. Sails of Change and its call to protect 30% of our planet by 2030 are carried on the sails of the team’s maxi-trimaran and TF35, the latter of which Duncan sailed aboard in 2021 during the first TF35 Trophy season; a campaign that earned him a third place.

Determined, the young man is both tough and tenacious. He’s also a loyal member of the crew whose experience as a freediver, his other passion, instils in him an aptitude for self-control and meticulous preparation, as well as an inner calm and a strong desire to surpass his own limits. All key qualities which are much appreciated by the crew, both aboard the TF35 catamaran and the maxi-trimaran Sails of Change.
