Duncan Späth

Born June 27, 1997, Geneva
Lives in Boston

The youngest of the maxi trimaran’s crew, Duncan began sailing at the age of five, adding his name to his family’s long maritime tradition. This passion was further fuelled by his uncle’s various America’s Cup campaigns. He has also followed with interest the nautical adventures of his mother, Dona Bertarelli, and Spindrift racing, notably the team’s world tour during the winter of 2015-2016.

He has been close to Spindrift since its creation, and spent much of his youth with the black and gold team, before competing alongside them as crew on Spindrift 2, breaking records for the Fastnet and Transat Quebec Saint-Malo.

A self-starter, he has excellent discipline, always performing tasks with a methodical, focused approach and an attitude of respect.  He is a loyal team-mate whose experience as a freediver, his other passion, have given him an aptitude for self-control and thoroughness as well as calmness and a strong desire to excel. These are all essential qualities when preparing to take on this iconic record - a unique opportunity that Duncan is determined to grasp with both hands.
