Reaction from Yann Guichard, skipper of the maxi-trimaran Spindrift 2 and co-founder of Spindrift racing alongside Dona Bertarelli, to today's announcement that Francis Joyon will also attempt to break the Jules Verne Trophy this winter. The Trophy is awarded to the fastest crew to sail non-stop around the world on the Ouessant-Ouessant route, rounding the three great capes (Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn). The current record stands at 45 days, 13 hours.

"The entire Spindrift racing team is preparing for its first Jules Verne Trophy around-the-world record attempt, a human feat that is so much more than just a sporting challenge. Records are there to be challenged and beaten. Francis has shown throughout his career that he is a formidable sailor, and that racing against the clock is one of his many talents. In 2008 he set the record for the fastest single-handed circumnavigation in a multihull boat, completing the course in an impressive time of 57 days. The record remains unbeaten. Today, he will race the same course on the very trimaran that set the crewed record in 2010, a record that our boat beat in 2012 and has held ever since. Depending on the respective weather strategies of our two teams, we may well both be at sea at the same time, sharing the world's most vast and most extreme playing field. At Spindrift, we relish competition. The attempt by Francis and his team adds some punch to this exciting winter season!"
