The wind made the competitors wait on the opening day of the third event in the World Match Racing Tour in Portugal. With the wind deciding to stay at the mouth of the river Tagus and not come up river towards the planned racing area, the organisers were forced to split the qualifying fleet racing over two days, rather than the customary one.
However, the change in programme did not affect the concentration and motivation of Yann Guichard and his crew, who won two of their four races. This leaves the French team in second place on the overall scoreboard and a direct route through to the quarterfinal stage. This solid start from the Spindrift racing team gave them the opportunity (as per rules) to chose their opponent for the opening quarterfinal duel.
