For the third round of the Vulcain Trophy, with two grand prix scheduled on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Ladycat powered by Spindrift racing will be defending its lead against rivals who are just a hair’s breadth behind. So, no rest for the crew, who have just got back from Newport (Rhode Island), where Spindrift 2 has begun the standby for the North Atlantic record. Despite the tricky weather on the Open de Crans, the last round a fortnight ago, the Ladycat crew climbed to the top of the overall standings. The black and gold D35 has got there thanks to two podium finishes in the first two events of the season.

The first grand prix this weekend is the Genève-Rolle-Genève on Saturday, June 7. For the eleven D35 one-designs in the Vulcain Trophy this will be the first long-distance format of the season, and it’s an opportunity to spread out but also to train before the legendary Bol d'Or Mirabaud next weekend. “This is a taste of the Bol d'Or Mirabaud,” Yann Guichard, skipper of Ladycat for the third grand prix, said. “If the conditions are not stable, it’s a more open contest. We could lose a lot of points as well as winning them too. Until you cross the finish line, anything can happen after several crossings at this level. More than 250 crews are expected. For the next two days after that, we’ll go and compete on the most beautiful part of Lake Geneva in the Open de Versoix (on the Petit Lac). There will be two days of intense racing that will be very demanding for the crews. With alternating coastal and banana-shaped (windward-leeward) courses, this grand prix will be an interesting challenge for all the crews. This grand prix is different from the others, because you have to switch from one course format to another, but it’s a good test."
