The Open de Crans: the second round for the D35 Ladycat

On Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, the 11 D35 one-designs, will compete in the 12 races scheduled for the Open de Crans, Act 2 of Vulcain Trophy. Due to the departure of the maxi trimaran Spindrift 2 for the delivery to Newport, to begin the standby for the North Atlantic record attempt, Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard will pass the helm of Ladycat to Xavier Revil this weekend.

15 days ago, the D35 Ladycat skippered by Yann Guichard took a fine second place at the Grand Prix Les Ambassadeurs. It was a first round played out in very windy conditions, where the Spindrift racing crew stood out among the leading lights of the circuit.

With little to choose between them, the 3 leading crews (Alinghi and Ladycat and Mobimo) will defend their podium places from the first round and battle hard in all 12 races in the light winds forecast. It is in this ultra competitive atmosphere that Xavier Revil, who has a good background in the D35 (a double winner of the circuit), and the whole crew, will try to gain some important points.

We had a great first Grand Prix,” Revil said. “I am approaching this second act calmly. We will try to be focused, take things as they come and just try to make sure our manoeuvres are smooth. The legs are short so the smallest bum note will be expensive. We will attempt to sail good legs and concentrate on our own race. If necessary we will keep an eye on our competitors at the end of the grand prix, based on points accumulated."
Bertarelli, who is currently preparing for the North Atlantic record attempt on Spindrift 2, will closely monitor the progress of the D35 Ladycat powered by Spindrift racing in the Open de Crans. "Because of the delivery of Spindrift 2 to Newport at the beginning of next week, we have given the helm to Xavier Revil this weekend. He has been sailing with us on all our boats for several seasons now. We trust him to defend the colours of our team and our partners on the water this weekend. It is a very high level competition and we wish a fair wind to our team for the Open de Crans."
