From Spindrift’s stable of multihulls, it is the turn of the D35, Ladycat powered by Spindrift racing, to start a new season of the D35 Trophy circuit in Switzerland. Ladycat will compete this weekend in the opening regatta at the Société Nautique de Genève from May 6 to 8. In this 13th season of the Trophy, ten teams are registered and will compete in eight events, divided between classic regattas on Lake Geneva and Grand Prix events, scheduled between May and early October.

Dona Bertarelli’s team has been part of the D35 circuit on Lake Geneva since 2007. They have been the podium three times in the last four seasons, and have twice won the Bol d'Or Mirabaud. The team approaches the season with renewed ambition and determination aiming to improve their standing this season. The crew of the gold and black trimaran will aim to use their knowledge of the erratic winds and subtle breezes to their advantage and will also be watching with interest the Tilt and Alinghi teams, who finished first and second place respectively in the ranking in 2015.

Surrounded by mountainous, Lake Geneva is known for its erratic, strong and even subtle breezes, which you need to know where to find,” Dona Bertarelli said. “Beyond the setting, it’s the field of play that helps to make this legendary competition, a highlight of the Lake Geneva calendar. Spindrift is showing its continuity in one-design multihull racing, as we are entering our 12th year (in the competition). We’ll keenly defend our team colours again this year on this always hotly-contested circuit, which combines performance and technology.”
