After finishing fourth overall in their first participation in the 2016 World Match Racing Tour, Yann Guichard, the only French sailor to be selected for the circuit, returns for a new  season with new ambitions. So as to ensure that the team is fully prepared and ready to compete in the fleet of elite international sailors, Spindrift racing has, this winter, set up training sessions from the team’s base in La Trinité-sur-Mer (Brittany) and also in Portimão (Portugal). The objective of these sessions is simple: to fine tune their teamwork and continue to develop their techniques sailing the M32 - both critical elements for the team to be competitive across the events in the 2017 circuit.

The team led by Yann Guichard, has again set an ambitious challenge for this season and is aiming for the podium on each event and as well as a high ranking at the final championship event in Xianmin, China in the late autumn.

To achieve these objectives and prepare for the first event in Perth, Australia at the end of March, the team is currently on its third training session in Portimão, Portugal.  Each day the team replicates a match racing course and team’s squad of sailors carry out two-boat training, practicing and gaining experience in the varied weather conditions found off the southern Portuguese coast.

The opening event of the World Match Racing Tour, the Australia Match Cup, will be held in Perth from 20-25 March.  For details of the full circuit visit wmrt.com

To succeed in this new season, much of the work has to be done early. Match racing requires a strong team spirit and a good knowledge of the rules. It is therefore necessary to train to accumulate this experience and to master the boat as much as possible
