The latest addition to the Spindrift racing team, the TF35 is a new generation catamaran. A successor to the famous D35 (launched in 2004 by the Swiss yard Décision), this new 35-foot multihull is equipped with controllable foils, allowing it to take off - upwind or downwind. With earlier take-off speeds, guaranteed foiling upwind and down and a fully automatic flight control system, the TF35 uses the latest in foiling technology, both to improve performance and simplify high speed foiling while making it easier to race.
The technology that forms the flight control unit makes it possible to control the flight of the boat electronically. Equipped with T-shaped appendages, the TF35 circuit is a new era in foiling boats that spend more time air borne, are faster and more spectacular, and have the ability go at speeds three times the wind speed.
Not unlike the D35, the TF35 has been designed to sail on closed or protected bodies of water with less likelihood of choppy water. However, easily transportable in a 40-foot container, the multihull is as at home on open waters.
Seven international teams, including Spindrift racing, will be competing in the inaugural circuit. The black and gold team is keen to take on the challenges posed by this new boat, whether that be getting to grips with the automatic flight systems, controlling the speeds of the foiling catamaran or ensuring that the crew’s teamwork is on point for this new challenge.
